DIY Love Print

Guys, I’ll admit this..I haven’t felt much inspiration lately.  It is that awkward time in the Texas “fall” when the calander says October/FALL.  But the temp gauge says 90 degrees and up.  My desire to wear jeans, cords, long sleeves and tights is going hard. But I can’t.  I would suffocate in this heat.. I’m in a funny state of mid season…I’ll get over it, but bear with me, PLEASE!   Until then, we’ll focus on some other stuff.  Including this DIY that I’ve been meaning to share FOREVER!!!

As you know, this whole year I’ve been redoing our apartment to fit “our” style, budget, and karma.  This has included both bathrooms.  Our master bath got a new color scheme of Black, Light Turquoise and Red.  (it needed to flow with our master bedroom which is black, white, and bright blue).

I had this great Ikea UNG DRILL frame and knew I wanted to use it on a small wall for maximum effect.  Previously, I found an frame/wall decor at Target that would have been PERFECT, thinking I could recreate it, I took a cell picture of it.  When I finally got around to remaking it, the picture was GONE! I was heartbroken, but decided to wing it!

Supplies:

  • White Poster board
  • Scissors
  • Exacto knife
  • Elmer’s Glue Stick
  • 4 Sheets of Scrapbook paper
  • Red Craft Paint
  • “LOVE” sparkly sticker

I took the backing off the frame and traced it onto the poster board.  Then cut out the oval.  I laid out my scrapbook paper.  I had to use 4 sheets all lined up.  I glued them all to the poster board then turned it over and set shoe boxes on it to make sure it stuck.   After about 30 minutes, I used an exacto knife to cut off the excess paper on the side of the oval. The seams of the paper are extremely unnoticeable.

I didn’t want it to look too perfect, so I finger painted a heart on the middle.

After it dried, I stuck the “Love” sticker directly in the middle of the heart and put it all back in the frame! This is now the pretty print that hangs in our bathroom!  It was an easy DIY that cost about $8 vs $25 for that first target print I saw.

Summer Must Haves

It has hit 90 degrees here over the past few days.  Ladies and Gentlemen, summer is here. Oh joy! (I have a love/hate relationship with summer..)  With it here, that means there are some things you just must have!  Now, this isn’t your normal must have list. These aren’t shoes or dresses, these are practical things that will actually benefit you. So here we go!

Your Six Summer Must-Haves

A Good Strapless Bra

High heat means tiny or no straps on blouses and tops.  My 3 year old strapless bra has become my best friend!  Don’t just run in and buy one. Take your time and pick one that works for you! I needed wire support and a demi cup.  Mine is from Victoria Secret and is similar to the one above.  I didn’t mind paying a little more for a good bra that has lasted and worked!  Another option a sticky bra.  One that sticks only to your boobs letting you wear backless tops and dresses.  Adhesive Options: Invisible Uplift, NuBra, Push Up Perks

Sheer Undies

Another necessity! Sheer undies!  White pants, light colors, and sheer fabrics are beautiful in summer.  Colorful panty lines are NOT!  Sheer/Flesh colored underwear are the easiest way to go!

A Good Razor

Never underestimate the power of a good razor.  You’ll have to shave less and your underarms and legs will thank you! I prefer to use a Gillette Venus Razor.

Good Lotion and Deoorant

Again your skin and nose will thank you!  Choose lotion that meets your skin needs and isn’t greasy after application for summer!  Your deodorant also needs to work for you! Are you an active girl on the go or a lucky one that only needs a little coverage. For lotion and deodorant, I use Nivea and Secret Clinical Strength.

A Pair of Good Sunglasses

Don’t get me wrong! I love to buy a cheap pair for looks only. But when you find a pair with the right protection, you’ll notice the difference!  Not to say you need to go buy an expensive pair! Just make sure the pair you pick up offers 100% UVA and UVB protection!

Makeup with SPF

This one should be a no brainer  by now. But its not.  Most makeup I buy now already has SPF in it. But when you buy look for those three little letters!  Even if you aren’t at the beach or pool, you’re exposed to the sun.  Makeup with SPF helps protect your skin when you forget.  I’m currently using Benefit Cosmetics Hello Flawless!

There ya go! Your six summer must haves! What do you think? Do you have any to add?

Feels Like Fall

Feels like fall, so let’s try another outfit post.  This week has felt like fall!  Monday (day of this outfit) was cool and more fall like than ever this year.  So of course,  I had to dress for the occasion! From grocery shopping to hosting Monday Night Football, this was the perfect casual running around outfit. Dinner consisted of wings, chips, salsa, brownies, and beer.  I stayed in the master to watch a juicy episode of Gossip Girl.  Hubs was nice enough to take these pics for me before the game started.  Thanks, hun! He was already happy because he won in Fantasy Football from Sunday.  Something I will never understand.  Can we have a fantasy leauge for Fashion Week?! Someone jump on that..

Hello fall, and a little menswear inspired style!

Sweater: Striped denim blue/rust red baggy sweater Target with a white cami underneath.

Jeans: B Buckle brand worn in with love (my fav jeans ever)

Shoes: Xhilaration® Taree Oxford Shoes – Cognac from Target

Jewelry: Thin gold hoop earrings, a gold peace sign necklace, and three gold/silver/rhinestone bangles

Trend Alert: Clogs are in, but I maybe out.

NEWSFLASH:

Let’s talk about one of this fall’s biggest trends: clogs

I must warn you I’m slightly horrified. I think they are *gasp* ugly, and hard to wear!  Chanel brought’em back and now they are everywhere!  They’ve become mainstream, and exactly on trend for the fall. Target and Aldo have CLOG categories on their websites!

I have a few problems with these shoes

A) I’m short, when I wear them, I look like I have hooves and even shorter legs.

B) I’m confused how to wear these, I guess with pants only right?

C) I get horrific flashbacks to when I was 10 and had a pair of patent leather black glitter clogs. Oh Yes, I did.  While I loved them at the time, looking back that was a bad fashion moment!

D) I’m clumsy, I need a strap on the back or I’m gonna fall flat on my face.

I’m not completely sold on this trend and probably won’t participate!

What I really want to know is, what do you think? Are you going to wear clogs this fall/winter season? How will you rock yours?

P.S. I like the look of these “clogs” from Target though they don’t seem so “clog-like” to me.

Hhm…I see a visit to target in my future and at least 2 pairs of shoes!
