Wedding Breakdown: Hair & Makeup

Lovelies, as you know I got married in April.  I finally am back to a regular routine and can blog out the wedding! (plus we got the pictures back so I can show too!)  Our wedding was outside on a Saturday in the afternoon.  It was a small intimate wedding with family, close friends, and bridal party.  I didn’t want a huge fuss with my or my bridesmaid’s hair and makeup. So we all did it ourselves! As the day started creeping up, I wondered if this was the best way to go, but I didn’t want to have to add extra cost to everyone at the last minute.

 BRIDESMAID HAIR & MAKEUP

I only wanted a few things for my bridesmaids:

  • Amped up day makeup (a little smokier than usual!)
  • A small amount of pink lipstick (everyone ended up using the same one)
  • Same color of nail polish on fingers/toes! (I gave the color to them as part of their gifts)
  • Soft curly hair, mostly down! No Up Do’s! (We all pitched in and curled/fixed each others hair!)

They all used their own makeup.  Their hair was curled with a 1” barrel curling iron and pinned up depending on bangs, layers etc.  We all had on Ulta Nail Polish in Sweetheart Pink.

 BRIDAL MAKEUP AND HAIR:

About two weeks before the wedding, I went to Ulta and got a mini makeover. I told the make up artist what I wanted and she foofed me up, and taught me how to use the products I needed I got new base, eye shadow, and lipstick! I also picked up my water-proof mascara in case!!  I went home and played! I did about 3 practice runs with hair & makeup. (THIS IS A MUST if you’re doing it yourself!! Do NOT wait till your wedding day to experiment!!)

 Makeup:

Benefit Some-Kind-of-Gorgeous (Foundation Faker)

Bare Minerals All-Over Warmth (Bronzer)

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Blends (Blush)

Bare Minerals Mineral Veil (Powder)

Too-Faced Natural Eye Kit (Eye Shadow)

Rimmel Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer in Sable (eyeliner)

Maybelline Colossal Volum’ Express Waterproof (Mascara)

Urban Decay Deep Pink Lip Stain

Hair:

Lots of my wedding was DIY, including my hair accessories.    I found the flower bobby pins at Forever 21 and the rhinestone leaves at Hobby Lobby. Then I intertwined them.  The night before, I sprayed my just-washed hair with Garnier Fructis Wonder Waves Spray and let it dry overnight.  Wedding day, I applied more Wonder waves spray to encourage more curl, then curled my whole head with a 1” curling iron.  I pulled my bangs back in to a mini pouf.   I pulled all the hair to one side of my neck and pinned it in strategic spots to look like a low side pony.  Then I pinned in the flowers and sprayed with hair spray.

My hair and makeup stayed all day, and my lipstick never smudged (another reason stains are becoming a favorite!)

Soon, we’ll breakdown the dresses and jewelry! Whoo-hoo! All images are from Treasured Moments Portraits (Pittsburg, TX)

Varying Temps= layers, layers, layers!

Spring DressIt’s a lovely afternoon. Sun is shining and it’s a good 75ish degrees. My wardrobe: a black/white striped floral print dress. The top half is tiny black and white striped with a wide stretch band empire waist with a floral print pattern on the bottom half. And I’m wearing leggings underneath it with black heels. This morning when I left the house it was in the high thirties and the hottest temperature today is supposed to be around 80 degrees.

That’s a huge variance! It makes it hard to dress in the morning. Thus, I threw on leggings under my dress. I’m not in love with the look, but I don’t think it’s horrible. Its wearable. Tights just didn’t seem like the right choice. At least I can more easily take off leggings?!?

My question: Are leggings under a dress ok? What do you think of this kind of look? Would you wear it? What are other solutions to these varying spring temps?

Spring Fashion News, makes my feet flutter!

I can’t wait for spring, and I am dying for wedges! We know this, so when Style.com Tila March Suede Wedgereported on them, I just had to share:

the BRIGHT side

tila march’s colorful suede wedges

“One of the brightest trends we spotted at the recent pre-fall shows was blue suede shoes. And red suede shoes, and green suede…well, you get the picture. We thought we’d have to wait until summer to slip our feet into a pair, but leave it to French editor turned designer Tamara Taichman to be one step ahead. Come the warmer weather, her yellow cork-soled wedges will pair nicely with the vibrant color-blocked ensembles designers have been showing, but until then, they’ll look great with gray tights. Does this mean optimism is officially back in style?

Dead Winter Days= Dreaming of Spring Feet!

We are now in the dark days of winter, where the fun and anticipation of holidays is over, and now we anxiously wait for spring.  I love my boots and tights; I really and truly do.  My collection is perfect and I wear either, or both almost everyday.  But deep down inside, my feet are already itching for spring and summer shoes!

Pretty painted toe nails, sumptuous sandals, cute flip-flops, killer wedges! *sigh* I’m especially looking forward to wedges.  I happen to be getting married and honeymooning this spring.  My mind is wandering with all the pretty wedges I want to wear to wander around some tropical locale!

I’m slowly thinking of a check list to the kind I need:

  • White cork
  • Black Wood
  • Brown/bronzy
  • A fun colorful pair

Shoes and packing are a painful topic for me, since I usually want to take all of them and should probably only take 3 at most.   I like wedges the best. Since I’m pretty short, the height is always the biggest plus, and the solid base doesn’t make my feet hurt.  Here a few pair I’m lusting after for spring/summer:

As seasons change, I change others things too! Do you?

As seasons change, more than just the weather switches, we all wear to warmer clothes in darker tones and colors, makeup palettes change from dewy skin to a more matte finish, less bronzer more blush, and richer jewel toned eye shadows and nail color.

Well, same goes for my hair. I don’t really plan it but somehow, my hair changes with the seasons. As winter fades to spring/summer, my hair usually gets lighter with highlights, and as summer fades to fall/winter, my hair usually gets darker with the help of my preferred hair dye.

So a few days ago I made my transition to fall/winter with 6WNLight Chocolate Brown/Nonstop Chocolate by Clairol’s Perfect 10. I’ll admit it was darker than I expected, but I’m loving the color and getting more used it. Here’s my transformation:
