Wedding Breakdown: Hair & Makeup

Lovelies, as you know I got married in April.  I finally am back to a regular routine and can blog out the wedding! (plus we got the pictures back so I can show too!)  Our wedding was outside on a Saturday in the afternoon.  It was a small intimate wedding with family, close friends, and bridal party.  I didn’t want a huge fuss with my or my bridesmaid’s hair and makeup. So we all did it ourselves! As the day started creeping up, I wondered if this was the best way to go, but I didn’t want to have to add extra cost to everyone at the last minute.

 BRIDESMAID HAIR & MAKEUP

I only wanted a few things for my bridesmaids:

  • Amped up day makeup (a little smokier than usual!)
  • A small amount of pink lipstick (everyone ended up using the same one)
  • Same color of nail polish on fingers/toes! (I gave the color to them as part of their gifts)
  • Soft curly hair, mostly down! No Up Do’s! (We all pitched in and curled/fixed each others hair!)

They all used their own makeup.  Their hair was curled with a 1” barrel curling iron and pinned up depending on bangs, layers etc.  We all had on Ulta Nail Polish in Sweetheart Pink.

 BRIDAL MAKEUP AND HAIR:

About two weeks before the wedding, I went to Ulta and got a mini makeover. I told the make up artist what I wanted and she foofed me up, and taught me how to use the products I needed I got new base, eye shadow, and lipstick! I also picked up my water-proof mascara in case!!  I went home and played! I did about 3 practice runs with hair & makeup. (THIS IS A MUST if you’re doing it yourself!! Do NOT wait till your wedding day to experiment!!)

 Makeup:

Benefit Some-Kind-of-Gorgeous (Foundation Faker)

Bare Minerals All-Over Warmth (Bronzer)

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Blends (Blush)

Bare Minerals Mineral Veil (Powder)

Too-Faced Natural Eye Kit (Eye Shadow)

Rimmel Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer in Sable (eyeliner)

Maybelline Colossal Volum’ Express Waterproof (Mascara)

Urban Decay Deep Pink Lip Stain

Hair:

Lots of my wedding was DIY, including my hair accessories.    I found the flower bobby pins at Forever 21 and the rhinestone leaves at Hobby Lobby. Then I intertwined them.  The night before, I sprayed my just-washed hair with Garnier Fructis Wonder Waves Spray and let it dry overnight.  Wedding day, I applied more Wonder waves spray to encourage more curl, then curled my whole head with a 1” curling iron.  I pulled my bangs back in to a mini pouf.   I pulled all the hair to one side of my neck and pinned it in strategic spots to look like a low side pony.  Then I pinned in the flowers and sprayed with hair spray.

My hair and makeup stayed all day, and my lipstick never smudged (another reason stains are becoming a favorite!)

Soon, we’ll breakdown the dresses and jewelry! Whoo-hoo! All images are from Treasured Moments Portraits (Pittsburg, TX)

Poor Nicole! Someone’s head should roll..

Nicole Kidman at the NYC premiere of Nine“At Tuesday’s red carpet premiere for Nine in Manhattan, Nicole Kidman debuted a questionable new makeup trend: a mess of white powder dotting her eyes and nose!” [US Magazine]

I’m not quite sure how make-up artists prepare their clients for a red carpet. But I would hope they would “test-run” through flashes and different lighting to prepare for the worst.   It sure seems as if someone forgot to even look at Nicole.

Everyone has a bad makeup day every once in a while. But ours don’t happen under the glare of hundreds of flashing bulbs.  And unfortunately the press has torn her apart.  Well, hopefully someone got yelled at for this big mess up. Forget about and move on, honey! You got movies to make and worry about!

P.S. Ladies, always make sure you’ve evened out your powder before you leave!

Honey, you might wanna change those pants….

0414-jennifer-love-sweats_faI’m a partial homebody! As much as I love to dress up, the second I get home, the fanciness comes off. T-shirts and yoga pants are all I’m worried about. This is good and bad, since it usually means I don’t want to change if I have to run and get something. And this was my problem the other evening… After getting home from work, I realized that I needed to go pick up a few supplies for a project at the local Hobby Lobby. I was already changed into “comfy clothes” and seriously debated not changing. Sometimes its just not worth it. But I threw on a pair of jeans, cute flats and left. Boy, I was glad I did.

Always, always, always, I run into someone I know. This time it was my BF’s roommate, his girlfriend and his other friend who I hadn’t seen in a long time. We spoke and as I walked off, I was thankful I changed and looked more put together! When I wear comfy clothes, I manage to see people that I want to make an impression on and don’t, ex-boyfriends, long lost friends, old teachers, etc…

Its not like I care what these people say about me when I walk away, its how I feel about myself when I walk away. I’d rather not feel bad about myself but think, “It was good to see ..” It would be nice if someone could tell me “You might wanna rethink those pants, shirt or whatever before you walk out that door!” I’m not saying that you have to always be dressed to the nines. But you might wanna think about who you might run into and how you’ll feel before you run out the door wearing that hole-y t-shirt and worn out pants…….

I know I will.

Makeup wonderings

I go on tangents a lot, usually because I’ve just had a number of experiences with whatever I’m talking about. Well, today it is about makeup.

  • ULTA is opening soon!As you know, we are finally getting an ULTA in Tyler. Yay! I’m patiently waiting for it to open, and drive by every once in a while to check on its progress. (Lame! I know.) It is going to open soon! My prediction is in November, just in time for Holiday shopping! If you want to work there (who wouldn’t want a discount?), apply here!
  • Cleaning out your make up drawer is a fresh new look on your makeup!—I’ve been redecorating my bathroom, which some how means switching around drawers and products. Anyway, this led me to cleaning and moving my makeup drawer. I wear mineral powder makeup, which gets all over and I have more palette eye shadows that break for no reason, all leaving my makeup drawer pretty dirty. So I got out the Lysol and went to cleaning last night. In the process, I cleaned out my makeup, throwing away expired, broken, and empty products! Now my drawer is clean and sparkly. I’m looking forward to putting on my own makeup again after seeing what I actually have. Here’s what it looks like all clean!
  • Nice Customer Service is wonderful! —So this isn’t so much to do with makeup as customer service, but it started with makeup! I’m am absolute lover of Bare Minerals make up (proud wearer for 1 ½ years! Woo-hoo!) So when I got a coupon in Glamour last month, I went ahead and ordered my base. Well it came yesterday and of course my luck. I was one shade off when I ordered and got a light color than normal. So I called their hotline to see about returns. The automated menu offered to speak to a “Beauty assistant”. My first thought was, “Stupid”, then “Why not?! What could it hurt?” I talked for about 7 minutes to an assistant, regardless of the conversation; she was nice, polite, and very helpful! She definitely helped me in my makeup questions. It is just refreshing to have a positive customer service experience. Just another reason to love my Bare Minerals!

Ok, I’m done with my musings about makeup. What are yours? Are you excited about ULTA??? When was the last time you cleaned/cleaned out your makeup drawer?
