No Buy July: Days 21-25

There are only 6 more days in this month! Only six more days till No Buy July is over! I can’t believe it!   Except those last 6 days will be the hardest!!

Days 21 through 15 weren’t really bad at all.  I didn’t really go anywhere except Walmart to buy groceries.  Thus, no temptation!

Last time I did mention that I might make a minor adjustment.  Well, no more.  I mentioned it to Mr. T and he said, “NO WAY, JOSE!”   Ok, maybe I embellished that.   Anyway, to sum up his little speech.  He said he was proud of me for the whole project and wouldn’t let me quit now.  Then he offered to buy me a like 2 items for me when we go to the mall. And I couldn’t be a mean wife and turn down his offer.  Even though, I then squealed with joy! SW, are you reading this? WE MUST GO TO FOREVER 21! MUST!

These 5 days weren’t much to talk about.  Except I really am thinking of turning NO BUY into a quarterly “public” project.  I haven’t quite worked out all the details; I’m thinking of maybe September or October would be the first project. Sound good?  If you are interested, please fill out the form below.

SIX MORE DAYS!!

Vixen Hair, Lips and Hips

So it has nothing to do with hips, but it sounded good right? On with the clothes! I wore this on Sunday to The Texas Shakespeare Festival‘s Play “The Beuax Stratagem” which was hilariously funny.  Of course, I forgot not only our nice camera but my point and shoot.  So cell phone it was! I think the turned out pretty well considering..

I got to wear this dress once last summer.  It was a late September buy from Forever 21.  When I spotted it, I had to have it.  Why?  Because a few weeks before I spotted the same dress at an F21 with CK.  There was only one! And it fit both of us.  It looked better on her so she got it.  And I forgot about it.  Until I was in a different Forever 21 in a different city and spotted it.  Now it is mine and I’m in love!  It’s just got so many little quirks.  The zipper, the faded flower design, the ruffle.

 Dress: Forever 21

Wedges: Target

Bracelet: H&M

Earrings: Charmin Charlie

I spent more time on doing my hair than I did on getting dressed/makeup.  I curled it and styled in Victory Rolls.  Originally, it seemed so easy from videos, but it wasn’t.  Took me quite a while to get it to this state then I stuck in the accessory clips to cover up some of the messiness.  I was thrilled with the end effect.

The Back.

Pardon my horrible transition of hair color.  I’m eventually going to tell you all about my ombre hair journey! Stay tuned…

I left my makeup very simple (plus I ran out of time!)  I only applied foundation, blush, bronzer, mascara, and Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Pop Life.  Have to say I felt very vixenish with the curled hair and red lips!  It’ll be a look I try again soon, maybe with a more vintage dress!

No Buy July: Days 6-10

10 days in loves! Here’s the scoop:

Being at home it is alot easier to avoid buying things.  Seriously, I’ve spent time watching movies, laying out, and reading instead of wandering mindlessly around stores.  The hardest part of these past few days was when we went out of town and went to a mall.  ACK!  I controlled myself and didn’t buy anything.

The biggest accomplishment was the fact that I didn’t even go IN the Forever 21 that was in the mall. Sure I walked by twice and stared longingly at the window…but I didn’t go in!    Lemme let you in a secret.  Whenever I’m within a 10 mile radius of a F21.  I GO. We don’t have one in my town and it is always imperative for me to visit!   Have to say I probably saved at least $60 since I didn’t go in.  Which is good.  It was really hard not to go in.  I still feel sad and regretful that I didn’t go in.  Even when I know it is No Buy July!  I’ll feel better about it eventually…until then I’m going to go stalk forever21.com and find a whole bunch of things I want….

What I Want To Wear: 4th of July

This weekend is a LONG weekend! Yay!  And it’s time to celebrate the 4th of July!

What are you going to be wearing this weekend?

I’m probably going to be wearing a casual dress or romper. Personal preference but, I find them much cooler than shorts. Here are a few things I’m dreaming of:

What’s more American than denim?

This dress reminds me of the prairie in all the right ways!

I’d pair this with a big ‘ole red statement necklace!

The last two dresses are my favorites:

Or maybe I’ll try a romper, like one of these:

With almost all of these, I would throw on a pair of flat sandals, big hoop earrings, a large bangle,  throw my hair up in a high bun an, top with my favorite pair of sunnies, and call it a day! What are you wearing this weekend? Have a fun & safe weekend!

HAPPY 4th of JULY!

Neon & Neutral: The perfect balance

Yesterday, we talked about how to wear neon and not look like you stepped out of the 80′s!  This is the outfit/challenge that inspired it!

The latest Bloggers Do It Better Challenge was: NEON & NEUTRAL “The look marries a simple neutral palette with a pop of neon color. Think colorblocking meeting the neutrals trend and having a baby together. A perfect balance, the neutral grounds the bright fluorescent color accenting the ensemble.” (Pretty Shiny Sparkly)

When I looked for fluorescents in my closet all I had were shirts!  Two were baggy tees which I couldn’t make look good with anything.  Then I found this lovely neon yellow racerback top! I chose to pair my neon yellow top with a navy vest and white shorts.  I feel like the vest broke up the shock of the yellow.

Top: Forever 21

Vest: Forever 21

Shorts: Forever 21 (gifted)

This challenge made me step out of my comfort zone a little bit and I loved the result.  I had forgotten out this vest and how much I loved it.  It’s getting a better spot in the closet from now on!

Sandals, Bracelets, Necklace: Gifted

Earrings: Charming Charlies

Rings: Katies (local jewelry store)

Have you tried neon? How do you wear it?

P.S. Don’t forget to take a look a how others worked the “Neon&Neutral” trend over at Pretty Shiny Sparkly!

BONUS: I’ve never posted outtakes because I already feel weird enough putting pictures of myself on the internet much less showing unflattering pictures.  Well, today was freaking HOT(over 100 degrees while IN the sun!) when we took pictures and it made for some interesting photos….so I’ll share some not so stellar moments! Enjoy!
