Trend Alert: Clogs are in, but I maybe out.

NEWSFLASH:

Let’s talk about one of this fall’s biggest trends: clogs

I must warn you I’m slightly horrified. I think they are *gasp* ugly, and hard to wear!  Chanel brought’em back and now they are everywhere!  They’ve become mainstream, and exactly on trend for the fall. Target and Aldo have CLOG categories on their websites!

I have a few problems with these shoes

A) I’m short, when I wear them, I look like I have hooves and even shorter legs.

B) I’m confused how to wear these, I guess with pants only right?

C) I get horrific flashbacks to when I was 10 and had a pair of patent leather black glitter clogs. Oh Yes, I did.  While I loved them at the time, looking back that was a bad fashion moment!

D) I’m clumsy, I need a strap on the back or I’m gonna fall flat on my face.

I’m not completely sold on this trend and probably won’t participate!

What I really want to know is, what do you think? Are you going to wear clogs this fall/winter season? How will you rock yours?

P.S. I like the look of these “clogs” from Target though they don’t seem so “clog-like” to me.

Hhm…I see a visit to target in my future and at least 2 pairs of shoes!

My Spring Wedding-Dresses, Shoes, Jewelry, oh my!

I think every little girl dreams of the day she gets married starting around the age 3. Its encouraged and though of as cute.  This includes visions of big dresses, long trains, flowy veils, and lots and lots of tulle, bridesmaids in colors all matchy.  I was no exception.  I was into drawing around 12 and designed my own dress back then.  It was quite elaborate with rhinestones, low cut backs, and pretty flowy fabric.  But what it definitely was NOT was a big puffy tulle dress that would make me look like I belonged on the top of the wedding cake or my bridesmaids look like 80’s prom queens.   Well, fast forward 11 or so years, time to plan my wedding!   It was a small intimate wedding with family, close friends, and bridal party and of course outstanding fashion!

Bridesmaids:

Bridesmaid dresses are one of the hardest things about wedding planning to me.

Do you want them to match? Will they all look good in the same thing? What color would be best? Could they wear it again?

Being a bridesmaid isn’t just showing up in a pretty dress and walking down an aisle.  You have to buy the dress, shoes, jewelry, pampering, gifts, and possibly throw showers.   That stuff usually ain’t cheap. 5 years ago, I decided my girls were going to wear black (so they could wear the dress again). I wanted them to find a little black dress that fit them-their personality, their taste, their body, and their comfort level.  Also one that wouldn’t break their bank–I left it up to them to chose how much they wanted to spend on their dress and shoes.

I only had 3 requirements for the whole ensemble:

  • Black heels (open toed/strappy)
  • above/at knee length dress.
  • Satin sheen fabric

And I secretly hoped they would all choose different necklines, and they DID!  Four girls, for different necklines: one shouldered (asymmetric), strapless, scoop neck, and off-the-shoulder (portrait).
They had different shoes and different dresses.  I gave them each vintage rhinestone earrings to top off the whole ensemble.  They all looked the same but individual. They were the best looking bridesmaids I’ve ever seen. (though I might be partial)

  Bride’s Dress:

When we went to look for wedding dresses, I tried on about 25 or more.  And, as cliché as it is, my dress chose me!  This one was one of the last I tried on and it was perfect.   I didn’t feel like a wedding cake topper!  It wasn’t tulley, it wasn’t a poufy, It was totally me!

It is a SCALA Destination Dress in cream, with beautiful beading on the neckline, bottom, and back.  It has a sheer overlay making it appear strapless and a deep sheer back.  It had a slight train that was just the perfect length.  I found my shoes at David’s Bridal Online Boutique.  They were a 4 in heel in cream with a bow and rhinestone clasp in the center.  My earrings were vintage leaf earrings and my bracelet was borrowed from my mom that looked vintage.  I felt like I stepped out of the 1920’s!

The bridesmaids black dresses and my cream jeweled dress tied together the “traditional with vintage touches” wedding.  It couldn’t have been more special. Thanks for letting me share!

And that’s the whole fashion and beauty recap of my spring wedding! All images are from Treasured Moments Portraits ( Pittsburg , TX )

Moulin Tennis? More crazy tennis fashion

A few months back we talked about Maria Sharapova’s interesting outfit during the Australian Open, well now its Venus Williams’ turn!

Venus debuted this littler number at the French Open yesterday.  This is an interesting choice of wear for Ms. Williams and looks a little more fitted for the boudoir than the tennis court. But kudos to her for stepping out of the box! I still like Maria’s better though! What do you think?

Venus Williams wears a racy dress in French Open debut

If things don’t go well for Venus Williams at the French Open perhaps she can find some work at the famous Parisian Moulin Rouge.

The seven-time Grand Slam champion wowed the crowd at Roland Garros on Sunday by wearing a lacy, black dress with bright red trim on her bodice during her first-round match against Patty Schnyder. The black overlay material made the dress appear as if it was see through, even though it was not.

Despite looking more like she was auditioning for a spot at a 19th century cabaret than playing in the year’s second Grand Slam event, Venus won with ease, 6-3, 6-3. She wore a similar can-can style outfit earlier this year in Miami.

Venus said the look was all about “illusion,” but didn’t state whether she’d wear it again during the tournament. Typically, she says, she comes to a match with eight to 10 outfits.

Oh Boy, Olsenboye!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock with no tv, or media in the US for the last 23 years, then you definetly know who the Olsen twins are. Mary-Kate and Ashley have built an empire in their life so far, and made a huge impact on the fashion world through their own line, Elizabeth and James, and even their own coffee table book! Now, they are collaborating with JC Penney’s for a new Junior line.

“Olsenboye, which is the Olsens’ ancestral name, will fall into Penney’s good and better price tiers. Olsenboye is a casual sportswear and accessories collection that includes denim, bottoms, tops, dresses, skirts, shorts, jackets, handbags and shoes. The line will retail from $20 to $50 and is being designed to be mixed to create different looks. The brand also will periodically flow in travel-inspired mini collections, each reflecting the looks and trends of different cities.

Beginning Nov. 6, Olsenboye will be available on jcp.com and in those 50 stores, including the Manhattan flagship, for a limited time. The collection will have a major rollout, set for 600 Penney’s stores in February.

It’s very fun, fashion driven, trendy and wholesome at the same time.” [WWD]

Now, Steve Madden is in on it to reports WWD. “Steven Madden Ltd. has signed a licensing agreement with Dualstar Entertainment Group to produce a collection of footwear and accessories for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s new Olsenboye line….” [WWD]

I am looking forward to the launch of Olsenboye since I love some of their Elizabeth&James looks. And they’ve given everyone a tantalizing preview with a great commercial for JC Penney.
