Varying Temps= layers, layers, layers!

Spring DressIt’s a lovely afternoon. Sun is shining and it’s a good 75ish degrees. My wardrobe: a black/white striped floral print dress. The top half is tiny black and white striped with a wide stretch band empire waist with a floral print pattern on the bottom half. And I’m wearing leggings underneath it with black heels. This morning when I left the house it was in the high thirties and the hottest temperature today is supposed to be around 80 degrees.

That’s a huge variance! It makes it hard to dress in the morning. Thus, I threw on leggings under my dress. I’m not in love with the look, but I don’t think it’s horrible. Its wearable. Tights just didn’t seem like the right choice. At least I can more easily take off leggings?!?

My question: Are leggings under a dress ok? What do you think of this kind of look? Would you wear it? What are other solutions to these varying spring temps?

What kind of borrower are you?

This past weekend was a girl’s weekend at my house. 3 of my best friends and I had a big girls night out and borrowed each others clothes, shoes, makeup, and accessories.  In all the clothes swapping, I came across a dress to borrow from CLK to wear on my upcoming vacation.   This got me thinking.

When you borrow or someone else borrows, how do you leave the clothes?  I’m not just talking “I’ll wear this tonight when we go out then give it back when we get back to your house”.

I’m talking, when you return it another day/week.

I’ll be borrowing this dress for a few weeks before I see her again.  My plan is to wear it, wash it, and return it.  If I get anything on it, I plan to treat it or dry clean it.  I plan to take care of it how I take care of my own clothes!  (Which will be a topic soon!)

When you borrow, what is your attitude?

A)     I don’t care, its not mine

B)     I better be extra careful, since it is not mine.

C)     Wearing and returning is fine!

D)     Wear, Wash , Return—it’s the only proper way!

E)      I don’t borrow, that’s gross.

Couture on the Court?!?

Maria Sharapova in NikeMaria Sharapova, noted tennis player and sex symbol, lost at day one of the Austrailian Open this past weekend.  But her performance was more overshadowed by what she was wearing!

Maria opted to wear Nike Golden Set Women’s Tennis Dress.

Nike decribes it as: “[a] winning look [that]  features a printed mesh cover dress that splits up the center and a coordinating, solid-colored jersey dress underneath.  The cover dress features a racerback and V-neckline outlined in delicate ruffles, while the inner dress has adjustable, meant-to-be-seen straps so you can fine-tune your fit. Built-in support in the bust lends comfort and a great fit.”

While I don’t play tennis, and don’t know the tennis dress etiquette.  I think this would be a cute dress to play in and the overlay gives it a less sporty, more flirty look.  I LIKE IT!

Many critics didn’t like and went on to say such mean things as:

Busted Racquet: “The chiffon-thingy makes her look like The Little Mermaid circa 1968. Either that or Lillian Gish.”

Busted Racquet’s fashion plate friend: “It’s bad camo negligee.”

Forty Deuce: “I’m thinking it was cross-marketing.”

Opponent Maria Kirilenko: “It was blue, I think, like POWERade.”

Selected reaction from Twitter: @paulavergara: “I’m guessing Sharapova signed off on her dress design over the phone/sight unseen.”

@GoToTennis: “As much as I hate Sharapova being upset in the first round – I’m relieved that her dress is out of the tournament.”

@ant_cee “Sharapova’s AusOpen dress looks like she got caught in some curtains en route to the court.”

@exodusrex: “uhm…i was pulling for sharapova tonight, but there’s 1 upside to her loss: i don’t have to see that dress again.”

@alejrocha: “She crashed into a peacock.”

@TruBlu: “that hideous dress was a portent of things to come.”

More meanness: My Fox New York

Well, I say good for Maria for stepping out of boring sports wear and taking a chance.  Keep up the cute dresses!

What do you think of Maria’s Nike dress?

Quick Style Guide: Thanksgiving Attire..leave room for the turkey!

Thanksgiving is upon us! Family, Friends, Food, Clothes?  What does one wear for a meal with family, or more than one meal with different families? Here’s your quick style guide for Thanksgiving dressing! (haha, so punny!)

Remember a few key things:

A) You’re going to be eating alot!  Keep clothes a little looser fitting. You’ll get super uncomfortable when that stomach expands from food consumption. No skin tight garments!

B) You might be seeing family you haven’t seen since last year, or since forever ago. Don’t send grandma into cardiac arrest with all that bare skin.  Wear a cami under that lowcut sweater or tights/leggings under that cute new mini!  Cover your parts, the only naked thing people wanna see is a turkey.

C) You might be standing more than you think!  Whether mom invited more guests than she thought or 90 yr old Aunt Ruby needs the chair, or you’ve been commanded to help out in the kitchen, comfortable shoes will be your friend.  The spiky stilettos  or thigh-high boots just won’t work for this occasion.  And no one wants to have to see you take of your shoes. Cute flats or flat boots are where its at!

A few options

1)     Oversize sweater belted low with leggings and flats

 2)     Dark wash denim jeans with embellished blouse or sweater

3)     Jersey dress with dark tights and flat boots

All of that being said, I still have no clue what I’m gonna wear! But you better believe it will be comfy and cute!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Hope its a blessed one!

New Moon-Red Carpet Rundown

About 2 weeks ago, I finally watched Twilight.  And I’ll admit, since then, I’ve watched it 4 or 5 times.   As we all know, New Moon comes out Friday! (w0o-hoo!) And the lovely vamps, werewolves, and humans walked the red carpet on Tuesday.  Here’s the rundown:

I must say Ms. Hot Mess- Kristen Stewart pulled it all together to look quite beautiful for the premiere

Wearing a white tulle strapless gown with chiffon embroidery by Oscar de la Renta and Neil Lane jewelry, she managed to still put a little of herself in their with her messy-in -all-the-right-ways hairdo!  The dress is a little mysterious, a little dark, a little bit Bella! I think she picked perfect!

Nikki Reed looked adorable in a gray/blue bubble-hem Burberry dress. Super cute outfit!  But could have used a little more of a wow factor in my personal opinion.

Why didn’t someone help dress Stephanie Meyer, the author of the Twilight saga! Or at least say hey, maybe we should try something else? Tuesday was her night to shine, and she didn’t.  (sad face!)Her dress accentuates all the wrong places. And that makes me sad.

On the other hand, whoever dressed Dakota Fanning deserves an A+++

The 16 year old, blonde, and blue eyed, beauty looked amazing.  She looks so chic; you almost forget she’s 16! The length, the fit= age appropriate! The black laser cut leather Valentino dress= amazing!  She kept it simple with her hair down/straight and soft neutral makeup, letting her peepers look SUPER blue!  I just want to know how she could walk in those amazing maroon heels! Other Hollywood pop tarts should take notice.  Ms. Fanning did it right!

There’s your red carpet rundown! So now, we all just have to wait until Friday to see New Moon!
